More than half of EU citizens use the Internet. 80% of them use the wide area network access over broadband connections. These data are presented in a report published in Byurssele.
It notes that last year the number of Internet users increased by 40 million people. Only 4% of European schools can not provide students access to the Internet, all the rest of it is. However, three quarters of schools in the EU are for the dedicated channels.
It is noted that these figures were achieved in six years. Back in 2001. equipped with a dedicated online channel were almost no schools.
By the beginning of this year, the Internet has appeared in more than 50 % of medical institutions of the continent. In addition, there was a large number of services that allow patients to communicate with doctors in real time.
The report draws attention to the fact that the Internet is still to avoid sharing 40% of EU citizens. And it depends on the country and if, in Denmark and the Netherlands enjoys a global network of 87% of the citizens, in Romania only 31 %.
European Commissioner for Telecommunications Viviane Reding said that the reason for lag in some countries the average networked readiness index is a lack of development of network infrastructure in them, writes ITUA.
